A world of shadows
The proverbial duality of light and shadow is the basis of both the plastic and symbolic aspects of the Sombras, nada más exhibition, whose title is borrowed from a 1943 tango by Lomuto and Contursi (1943).
The pieces are articulated around the concepts of fugacity and freedom, which add to some other hardly suggested ideas to create a space where drama and divertissement converge and transform into metaphors fluctuating between the private and the public spheres.
Shadow as an inmaterial being is the starting point from wich to go deep into the illusion of making the absence real while, from a contemporary point of view, shadow is given an allegoric sense without detriment to other connotations or, in line with Lavater, is interpreted as an evidence of the true reality wich the subject hides from itself.
Although this is all perceived from a Western point of view, there are some references linked to the plain sensory pleasure arising from the contemplation of shadows in the Eastern tradition.
The exhibition proposes a plastic approach to the above notions through an immersion in the silence and dimness of empty spaces. The simplicity of materials and processes evokes and instance of female art shaped into four installations, a manufactured object and eight small boxes. They all have in common some kind of invisibility, lightness and discreet movement, in order to bring shadow front stage.
